This
is our latest project, a Vespa 90, that was salvaged from a barn
in Herefordshire. The owner has requested a full resto job so
we thought that we would give you an insite into the various stages
that we outlined in the restoration work link. The photograph's
below show the condition that we received the scooter in. |
|
| |
Stage
1, the project begins and the scooter is stripped down to it's
component parts. The serviceable parts are retained and the
frame, forks, body panel, wheels, hubs etc are shot blasted.
The panel and frame work will be repaired or welded where necessary
and primed ready for the paint. All parts are finished in two
pack paint with the colour of your choice.
The
crank case is stripped bare, usually the case is then cleaned,
rough surfaces removed and is either blasted, powder coated
or painted to your preference.

The
photos say it all really!
The
scooter is being stripped down to its component parts. This includes
the engine, forks, handle bars, the wiring, wheels & suspension.
These will be accessed to see what can be salvaged.
The
wiring looks doomed but there is hope for most of the remaining
components, we will know much more after the shot blasting process. |

Above
Left: This
shows how the shot blasting can get into every nook and cranny.
This is excellent preparation for the next stage which is to get
some paint on the frame. We will have to wait for instructions
from the customer before we can do that.
Above Middle: Here we can see the handle bar casing,
the forks and other bits, including a wheel hub.
Above Right: Another view of the frame illustrating the
quality of the shot blasting. The other two photos to the right
& left also show this.
The great this about shot blasting is that
we can see where the frame requires further work such as welding
or filling. Though there are some areas that need attention it
amazes us how little is needed considering the state that the
scooter was found in.
Below
there are some before & after photos of the engine casing,
getting this shot blasted really helps with the engine restoration,
again it gives us a great base to work from and shows where, if
any, weaknesses are.
